We are not your typical driving school

Learning to drive is an exciting time for you, and earning your driver’s license is a huge step that gives you freedom as well as independence on the road.  This new privilege also comes with some risk and an enormous amount of responsibility, especially for teens.  Did you know,

  • In 2015, 2,333 teens in the United States ages 16–19 were killed, and 221,313 were treated in emergency departments for injuries suffered in motor vehicle crashes in 2014.1 That means that six teens ages 16–19 died every day from motor vehicle injuries. 1

  • The risk of motor vehicle crashes is higher among 16-19-year-olds than among any other age group. In fact, per mile driven, teen drivers ages 16 to 19 are nearly three times more likely than drivers aged 20 and older to be in a fatal crash. 2

  • Teens driving with teen passengers: The presence of teen passengers increases the crash risk of unsupervised teen drivers. This risk increases with the number of teen passengers. 3,4

  • Newly licensed teens: Crash risk is particularly high during the first months of licensure. 5,6 The crash rate per mile driven is 3 times higher for 16-17 year olds as compared to 18-19 year olds. 2

Our mission is to prepare our student drivers for a life of accident-free driving.

We teach cutting-edge, safe driving techniques to our students

It is easy to teach you how to drive on the road with no drivers; however, it is a little harder to teach you how to drive on the road with other unpredictable drivers and variables that could compromise your safety.

We are only able to master our teaching technique because we have invested time to educate ourselves and expand our knowledge of the behaviors of novice drivers.  Our driving training program focuses on helping you develop your cognitive skills required for defensive driving. These cognitive skills include proper road scanning, management of driving speed in special environmental conditions, anticipating and recognizing hazards, and the ability to evaluate safe driving maneuvers instantly.

We specialized training is designed with teens in mind

It is no secret that teens think differently from adults.   Teens evaluate risk differently and peer influence can affect their decisions as it relates to driving.  At Tri-City Driving School, we recognize the developmental psychology of adolescents, and we have used this knowledge to develop our teaching tactics.  We have tailored our teen driving program to help students with knowledge retention and application in unfamiliar situations.  We recognize that each of our students has a unique learning style and pace, so we begin our behind-the-wheel lesson with a student assessment.  Once an evaluation is complete, we customize the lesson presentation to meet needs of our students.  This approach ensures students are calm, confident, and ready to learn from their instructor.

We have the best, professional driving instructors

We want our students to learn from the best instructors, so we hire the best.  Our professionally trained instructors are required to pass a thorough background check and maintain a safe driving record. We also require our instructors to participate in extensive training to meet as well as exceed Virginia licensing requirements.  In addition to being knowledgeable and experienced driving instructors, our trainers friendly, helpful, and very patient.   We understand the importance of effectively communicating with our students as well as how to relate to new drivers, regardless of their age.
